o%20roles%2C%20identities%2C%20behaviours%20and%20relationships%20associated%20with%20being%20male%20or%20female.%5CnOBJECTIVES%3A%20The%20overall%20objective%20of%20this%20qualitative%20evidence%20synthesis%20%28QES%29%20was%20to%20explore%20and%20explain%20probable%20gender%20differences%20in%20the%20health%20literacy%20of%20migrants.%20The%20findings%20of%20this%20QES%20can%20provide%20a%20comprehensive%20understanding%20of%20the%20role%20that%20any%20gender%20differences%20can%20play%20in%20the%20development%2C%20delivery%20and%20effectiveness%20of%20interventions%20for%20improving%20the%20health%20literacy%20of%20female%20and%20male%20migrants.%20This%20qualitative%20evidence%20synthesis%20had%20the%20following%20specific%20objectives%3A%20-%20to%20explore%20whether%20there%20are%20any%20gender%20differences%20in%20the%20health%20literacy%20of%20migrants%3B%20-%20to%20identify%20factors%20that%20may%20underlie%20any%20gender%20differences%20in%20the%20four%20steps%20of%20health%20information%20processing%20%28access%2C%20understand%2C%20appraise%2C%20and%20apply%29%3B%20-%20to%20explore%20and%20explain%20gender%20differences%20found%20-%20or%20not%20found%20-%20in%20the%20effectiveness%20of%20health%20literacy%20interventions%20assessed%20in%20the%20effectiveness%20review%20that%20is%20linked%20to%20this%20QES%20%28Baumeister%202023%29%3B%20-%20to%20explain%20-%20through%20synthesising%20findings%20from%20Baumeister%202023%20and%20this%20QES%20-%20to%20what%20extent%20gender-%20and%20migration-specific%20factors%20may%20play%20a%20role%20in%20the%20development%20and%20delivery%20of%20health%20literacy%20interventions.%5CnSEARCH%20METHODS%3A%20We%20conducted%20electronic%20searches%20in%20MEDLINE%2C%20CINAHL%2C%20PsycINFO%20and%20Embase%20until%20May%202021.%20We%20searched%20trial%20registries%20and%20conference%20proceedings.%20We%20conducted%20extensive%20handsearching%20and%20contacted%20study%20authors%20to%20identify%20all%20relevant%20studies.%20There%20were%20no%20restrictions%20in%20our%20search%20in%20terms%20of%20gender%2C%20ethnicity%20or%20geography.%5CnSELECTION%20CRITERIA%3A%20We%20included%20qualitative%20trial-sibling%20studies%20directly%20associated%20with%20the%20interventions%20identified%20in%20the%20effectiveness%20review%20that%20we%20undertook%20in%20parallel%20with%20this%20QES.%20The%20studies%20involved%20adults%20who%20were%20first-generation%20migrants%20%28i.e.%20had%20a%20direct%20migration%20experience%29%20and%20used%20qualitative%20methods%20for%20both%20data%20collection%20and%20analysis.%5CnDATA%20COLLECTION%20AND%20ANALYSIS%3A%20We%20extracted%20data%20into%20a%20form%20that%20we%20developed%20specifically%20for%20this%20review.%20We%20assessed%20methodological%20limitations%20in%20the%20studies%20using%20the%20CASP%20%28Critical%20Appraisal%20Skills%20Programme%29%20Qualitative%20Studies%29%20checklist.%20The%20data%20synthesis%20approach%20that%20we%20adopted%20was%20based%20on%20%26quot%3Bbest%20fit%26quot%3B%20framework%20synthesis.%20We%20used%20the%20GRADE-CERQual%20%28Confidence%20in%20the%20Evidence%20from%20Reviews%20of%20Qualitative%20research%29%20approach%20to%20assess%20our%20level%20of%20confidence%20in%20each%20finding.%20We%20followed%20PRISMA-E%20guidelines%20to%20report%20our%20findings%20regarding%20equity.%5CnMAIN%20RESULTS%3A%20We%20included%2027%20qualitative%20trial-sibling%20studies%20directly%20associated%20with%2024%20interventions%20assessed%20in%20a%20linked%20effectiveness%20review%20%28Baumeister%202023%29%2C%20which%20we%20undertook%20in%20parallel%20with%20this%20QES.%20Eleven%20studies%20included%20only%20women%2C%20one%20included%20only%20men%20and%2015%20included%20both.%20Most%20studies%20were%20conducted%20in%20the%20USA%20or%20Canada%20and%20primarily%20included%20people%20of%20Latino%5C%2FLatina%20and%20Hispanic%20origin.%20The%20second%20most%20common%20origin%20was%20Asian%20%28e.g.%20Chinese%2C%20Korean%2C%20Punjabi%29.%20Some%20studies%20lacked%20information%20about%20participant%20recruitment%20and%20consideration%20of%20ethical%20aspects.%20Reflexivity%20was%20lacking%3A%20only%20one%20study%20contained%20a%20reflection%20on%20the%20relationship%20between%20the%20researcher%20and%20participants%20and%20its%20impact%20on%20the%20research.%20None%20of%20the%20studies%20addressed%20our%20primary%20objective.%20Only%20three%20studies%20provided%20findings%20on%20gender%20aspects%3B%20these%20studies%20were%20conducted%20with%20women%20only.%20Below%2C%20we%20present%20findings%20from%20these%20studies%2C%20with%20our%20level%20of%20confidence%20in%20the%20evidence%20added%20in%20brackets.%20Accessing%20health%20information%20We%20found%20that%20%26%23039%3Bmigrant%20women%20of%20Korean%20and%20Afghan%20origin%20preferred%20access%20to%20a%20female%20doctor%26%23039%3B%20%28moderate%20confidence%29%20for%20personal%20reasons%20or%20due%20to%20cultural%20norms.%20Our%20second%20finding%20was%20that%20%26%23039%3BAfghan%20migran
